The Medal of Saint Benedict reminds the faithful who carry it of God’s constant presence and protection. In the 19th century, there was a renewed fervor for the Medal of Saint Benedict. The origin and history of the medal are studied in detail in the written works of Dom Prosper Guéranger, abbot of Solesmes, and Dom Zelli Iacobuzzi, monk of Saint Paul Outside the Walls. Devotion to the Medal also spread from the latter monastery, located in Rome and a center of Benedictine influence. The most popular representation of the medal is the so-called “Jubilee Medal,” designed at Beuron Abbey and minted especially for the Benedictine Jubilee of 1880, commemorating the 1,400th anniversary of the birth of Saint Benedict Abbot.
